(in)exact walk

Guided by our voices and introduced to our sonic landscape, you are invited to walk and listen in a place of your choosing.

An invitation to Walk and Listen navigating the Ried Building and noting the sounds you hear (or don't), real or imagined, you will explore a place through a layered sonic ecology.

Across time and distance, you will walk alone, with our voices as your guide. Your walk and listening are unique to you but explored in the knowledge that others are being guided by the same invitation.

Connected through a collective experience collectively, we will share the observations we make with each other as an echo of our shared (in)exact walk, creating a collaborative record of our combined sonic landscape.

Tour of GSA learning spaces

Guided by my voice and introduced to the sonic landscape of the Reid Building, you are invited to walk through and listen to our learning spaces.

With my voice as your guide, you will walk and listen to a unique auditory journey while knowing others are being guided by the same invitation.

Collectively, we will share the sights and sounds we recall, real or imagined, with each other as a record of our shared (in)exact walk.

About

Digger Nutter and Victoria Payton have been walking and listening together for years. As designers, educators, researchers, and conveners, their work explores participation, collaboration, and shared experiences. From creating fictional biotech firms to illuminating landscapes and crafting participatory journeys, they invite us to look beyond the now and imagine alternative possibilities. Together, they have published work on the collective memories of the learning studio. Digger has recently shared influential work on both the sonic landscapes of interiors and side-by-side walking to enable learning. Their latest walking experience continues this exploration, encouraging connection, curiosity and listening.
